Cooking up change:
why our
Moroccan israeli restaurant in Nyc went
SEED-oil free
Why we decided to go SEED oil free
At CLAUDETTE'S, weâve always prioritized serving food that not only nourishes the body but also honors the deep traditions of Moroccan-Israeli cuisine. This commitment to high-quality, wholesome ingredients led us to make an important decision: we went completely seed oil-free.
The choice was driven by our values of health, authenticity, and transparency, but more importantly, it was personal.
One Friday night during Shabbat dinner, we had an honest conversation. We asked each other, âWhy are we serving food in our restaurant that we wouldnât eat ourselves?â At home, we use organic, sustainable meats and wild-caught fish, and we never cook with seed oils. We realized that if this is the standard we hold for ourselves, itâs time to bring that same integrity into the food we serve at CLAUDETTE'S. We knew there had to be others out there who care just as much about what they eat.
The Hidden Dangers of Seed Oils
Seed oils like canola, sunflower, and soybean oil are often used in restaurants because theyâre inexpensive and widely available. However, these oils are highly processed and contain large amounts of omega-6 fatty acids, which can cause inflammation and have been linked to health issues like heart disease and metabolic disorders. Most people are unaware of how common these oils are in processed and restaurant foodsâand how much they can impact long-term health.
By cutting out seed oils, weâre doing more than just eliminating a cheap ingredientâweâre creating food that aligns with our values and supports the well-being of our customers. We use extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, and avocado oil instead, which are rich in heart-healthy omega-3s and antioxidants, creating meals that taste great and support optimal health.
Staying True to Tradition
Our decision to go seed oil-free wasnât just about health; it was about staying true to our roots. In traditional Moroccan and Israeli cooking, healthy fats like olive oil have always been central to the cuisine. By going back to these traditions, weâre not only serving food thatâs delicious but also maintaining the integrity of the dishes our families have passed down through generations.
In making this change, weâve also upheld our commitment to transparency. We want our customers to know exactly what theyâre eating, and weâre proud to say that every dish at CLAUDETTE'S is made with organic, seed oil-free ingredients. From the spices in our beef kofta to the delicate flavors in our wild caught dijon salmon, you can trust that weâve sourced the best ingredients.
A Better Dining Experience
Since going seed oil-free, weâve seen overwhelming support from our community. People appreciate the care we put into each meal, knowing that theyâre eating clean, wholesome food made with love. Itâs about more than just great flavorsâitâs about eating food thatâs good for you and supports your health.
We believe that our commitment to being seed oil-free is a step toward a healthier future for our customers and the planet. And weâre proud to be one of the few restaurants in NYC offering this level of quality, health-conscious dining.
